Writing: A Primal Act

Writer's picture: ThirteenThirteen

From time immemorial, we find evidence of humans inscribed something – be it a bamboo pulp or the cave walls or the silk fabric. It is done basically to express. As part of our evolutionary process, we may have picked this skill, and yet we have inherited it for so long that it almost appears to be our primal act. Children of an age where they don't even know to speak engross themselves into colours and making squiggly lines on a slate.

On the other hand, writing alone (compared to our verbal form of communication) gives a potential validity to our thoughts. In my view, writing is a primal way to bring across a new possibility for a new creation.

All our primal actions, in a way, are about saving or protecting ourselves. Whereas, writing (or drawing) is one primal act that is outwardly and exuding. The sheer possibility of writing has brought to humankind makes it so profound. It's time we pause and realise the potential of this primal act.
