We do the recording of all the podcasts of Thirteen on Tuesday mornings. Almost. For the upcoming episode, which is also the 50th one, we planned to do the recording on Tuesday. But, somehow, it was not working well, so we moved it to Wednesday, and we did it. Was it possible for us to do the recording of this one too on a Tuesday? No. Because we did it on Wednesday, this whole idea of always having a choice or free will to do it on Tuesday doesn't hold anymore.
Typically, we would like to find the reason and often blame for things happening or not happening. But, once we establish that there is no free will, the question of holding someone at the cause of that thing is irrelevant. Now, one may say this is fine for podcast recording or other regular daily activities. But what about crimes and acts of violence? Should we also say it's not by free will and let go of the criminal? Here taking action of arresting the criminal will ensure that it will not happen again, but should we feel hatred for that person is a question of enquiry. We don't go behind the snake that bites us to take revenge; we go to the doctor to get the poison out.
After a few years, you don't even remember how the snake looked, but you will never forget the person who took him in the jungle. And there lies the problem. There comes suffering.
