Then why do people marry? - Part II

Writer's picture: ThirteenThirteen

Everyone is a Hero of their own life. And like every hero, we want the audience to see us. To see what we do, how we do, where we do and when we do. We want this for the acknowledgement of the challenges we face, our strategies to win the rat race. To applaud the decisions we take and the choices we wisely make. To see the pain we bear and the suffering we expect to share. The headaches, back-aches, the sprains and the dreams those get down the drains.

We need an observer of our life. We need a husband or a wife.

Inspired from the below conversation from the movie "Shall we Dance?"

Beverly Clark: All these promises that people make and break... so why do you think people get married?

Devine: Passion!

Beverly Clark: No

Devine: It's Interesting, coz I would have taken you for a romantic. Why then?

Beverly Clark: Because we need a witness to our lives. There are a billion people on the planet... I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'."
