The Farce of Becoming

Writer's picture: ThirteenThirteen

As a child, there are very few basic needs we have as human beings. Slowly we start watching the world around us. We learn new skills, meet new people and join new groups. An individual 'self' is born without us being aware of it. Finally, we meet the desire to become someone and achieve something. This desire guides us to take on different things in life. The problem starts when we want to become someone else. We may like someone who is considered successful in society and will be remembered by the world even after they are no more. To become someone who has meaning and purpose in life. We want to become that someone.

The problem with becoming is that it is always in future. It's always a pursuit and chase. One will not find the exact parameters to call it a day. To announce one day that they are now that someone which they always wanted to become. Becoming is hope. The problem with hope is it takes you away from reality. It lures you to continue the non-stop seeking for meaning and purpose for one's life. It is a false promise for freedom and an insatiable desire for peace. Becoming is never going to be present. It is never a reality.

We live in hope, and we die in hope.

Creation of a desired life is an ambition, and yet we succumb to the fast paced life. In this time and age, 13 is a blog that provides a two minutes everyday read on six week days and on Sunday a free planning tool towards designing your future week is available to download that acts as your own mindfulness guide.
