Happiness

Happiness is a myth.

We love to chase what is false. There are multiple reasons for that, but the basic one is our love to seek pleasure. We are almost full time busy chasing pleasure. Happiness is defined in many ways, and the semantics can help us justify the difference between joy, pleasure and happiness. This is also done to show how pleasure is bad; happiness is near joy, and joy is divine. If we refer to yesterday's post, both good and bad are societal creations. Thus Happiness and joy are good is a mind creation. Also, pleasure is bad comes from this logic.

Once it is established that happiness is good, we work hard to associate all other good things with happiness—religion, rituals, cultural activities, education and mindfulness etc. We run behind all this to seek happiness. We want to have happiness in our relationships, happiness in our health/well-being, happiness in our financial stability and most importantly, happiness in our spiritual endeavours. We follow gurus who promise happiness, we read books that give hacks to happiness, and we are in constant pursuit of happiness.
