Do I really want Peace?

Writer's picture: ThirteenThirteen

Every TV news channel, every politician and heads of all the major institutes today are talking about "War with Corona". Why do we call it a WAR? Do we want to have a peaceful healthy life or do we want to win and be victorious. Fight for freedom, struggle for existence, war against poverty, all these phases have the context of conflict. The question then is, do we really need peace.

"I want to celebrate the victory of my religion over some other but I am a peaceful person."

"I think my country is better than others ( because 'I' am born in it), and yet I aim for world peace."

"I want my kids to get the best education, best school and better upbringing than others and then they should also get a peaceful world to live in it with those achievements."

People fighting to get a seat in a peace conference is the irony and tragedy of our society. At our level, we fight with our neighbor over the parking lots. At every level of my thoughts and emotions there are conflicts, divisions and struggle but still my claim is that I am traveling towards inner peace.

Conflict is not peace.

Avoidance is not peace.

Accommodation is not peace.

Compromise is not peace.

Resistance is not peace.

Then what is peace? And, is it worth the struggle for achieving it? Do I really want Peace?
