Cathartic Writing? What is it good for?

Writer's picture: ThirteenThirteen

In the last four days we’ve seen what is cathartic writing, how’s it done, what is an internal experience of emptiness and the state of being that emerges out of it, and the experience and meaning of slowness. But what, in the real world, are the benefits of cathartic writing?

When we write and empty ourselves of our biased views, thoughts and apprehensions, we operate optimally without the past dictating our moves in the present or by worrying about the future from our past experiences and then making those calculated moves. Rather, we look at the world from a fresh view, a view that is emerging in the right now, looking at things just the way they are.

When that happens, the world is a field of possibilities. The possibility, to begin with, is of compassion, kindness and love towards ourselves over self-pity, doubt and fear. From this standpoint, we have a possibility of being whole, complete and achieving a sense of satisfaction. When we can be at ease with ourselves, we can truly be at ease with the world around us.

Cathartic writing is an innate experience. It’s not a concept or an idea, it’s an action that is pragmatic in nature and that allows us to connect with the right now, with ourselves. Only by experiencing this, we can explore its true possibilities. They may have been logically laid out above, but they’re much more than that!
